A Beautiful Edge of the World B&B

(Yup, welcome to our home, the "Edge B&B") We hope you'll consider making it your home for a while, too.

The Hawaiian word ohana translates loosely to family, or extended family including friends. My family and I would like to invite you to join our ohana in Captain Cook on the Kona coast of the Big Island for a while. Our aim is to make you like it enough to come back again to our bed and breakfast some day. Many folks, in our 14 years of running the B&B, do.

My name is Kurt. I've been a pilot, a professor, a writer, an inn keeper and coffee farmer. I like what we're doing now a lot. Interesting, nice folks come from around the world. It makes it tons of fun for us and tons of fun for them to meet each other. We're not a giant, institutional B&B. Just three rooms, and we care about everybody who comes to stay with us. We try to keep our room rates as low as possible to make it easier for folks to visit Hawaii.

Five acres offers the quietude one should expect in such a beautiful setting. Organically grown tropical fruit trees are there for your picking, and macadamia nut trees and coffee plants are there for my picking, but you can help with the harvesting if you want to. There's also a tree house in the ever-being-built stage perched in a mango tree for the young and young at heart who really want to get away. Many people who stay here say that our coffee is the best they've ever tasted.South Kona is known for its rural flavor. People who live here call it the real Hawaii - as opposed to the hustle and bustle of Waikiki or the resorts to the north. Be sure to let me know your special interests (whale watching, kayaking, volcano watching, scuba, etc.) so that I can help you build them into your stay on the Big Island.

The Edge of the World is a modern, comfortable and tranquil bed and breakfast with amazing views down the Kona Coast and out to the Pacific Ocean. This is a boutique, upscale B&B with downscale prices. What we save on professional website construction (ha ha), expensive advertising, and 1200 thread Egyptian cotton sheets we pass on to our guests in the form of what I believe are amongthe best value rates on the island. The house has various treasures from Dr. Weigelt's travels around the world, like masks from Borneo and Buddhas from Bali that keep away the evil spirits.

As your hosts are experienced world travelers themselves, they know what it's like to be on the road and offer many free services accordingly. Complimentary laundry service for stays of three days or more, free use of snorkel and beach equipment and beach towels, free use of the host's computer for a quick email check, and lots of good advice on things to see and do while you are on the Big Island can be expected. If you're interested in plants and how they relate to Hawaiian culture, you'll be invited to join Kurt on an easy walking tour of the plantation.

Great snorkeling and hiki
