Located on the shores of Poole Harbour (the 2nd largest natural harbour after Sydney) water sports are a major attraction. History too plays a a huge part in Poole and the surrounding beautiful Dorset countryside, with the UNESCO world heritage site of the Jurassic Coast to the west, Brownsea Island (the home of scouting and site of the first camp in 1907) in the middle of the harbour and the New Forest National Park to the east.

Cultural attractions include Poole's Lighthouse (home of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra) the Bournemouth International Centre and the Pavilion theatre. The area is famous for a wide variety of restaurants including Rick Stein's newest establishment, here at Sandbanks.
