Picture this. A perfect inland lagoon set in the lee of the forests and mountains of Snowdonia. Breathe it in. It’s clean, it’s fresh, it’s wild and it’s beautiful. Now add something a little bit special. A head-high wave that starts at one end of the lagoon, peels perfectly for more than 150 metres, and then dissipates softly as it hits the shore.

The Surf Snowdonia Adventure Parc in north Wales is home to a world-first inland surf lagoon seven miles from the sea near Conwy. Their revolutionary design and engineering means that they can simultaneously generate different wave profiles in different zones of the lagoon – so absolute beginners can surf safely alongside the more experienced.
You book your time on the lagoon either as part of a group lesson (up to six per group) or under your own steam as a ‘freesurfer’. Surfing is offered to children aged 5+ and board hire is included in the cost of any beginner or intermediate lesson. You can wear your own wetsuit or hire one from them for just £5 per day.
Lessons start in the Surf Academy, where friendly instructors – led by multiple Welsh champion surfer Jo Dennison – will put you through some basic dry side instruction before you hit the water. Once you’re out there, the consistency and reliability of the waves will help to fast track your progression.
As well as the surf there’s a whole bucketload of brilliant family activities to do onsite, from stand up paddle boarding and bodyboarding to the crazy Crash & Splash obstacle course and catapult blob. For younger children there’s a surf-themed indoor soft play area as well as an exciting outdoor obstacle course and bungee trampolines.
A top notch restaurant and bar showcase the best in local produce and will keep the troops well fed, and there’s great value onsite B&B accommodation from just £25 per person per night. The comfortable wooden glamping pods sit right on the water’s edge, and are a brilliant place to rest your head after a full-on day of action on the waves.
