Synetic Theater is a physical theater located in the Washington, D.C. area that emerged from the creative vision of founders Paata and Irina Tsikurishvili, Georgian artists who moved to the United States in the 1990s. Trained in dance, theatre and film, the Tsikurishvilis combine traditions of the Caucasus with distinctly American styles to tell classic stories through movement, music, technology and visual arts. Founded in 2001, Synetic Theater is a center for American Physical Theater, fusing dynamic art forms—such as text, drama, movement, acrobatics, dance, and original music. Synetic has received a total of 93 Helen Hayes Award nominations and 27 Awards for directing, choreography, acting, costume design, and best play.

Upcoming Productions Include: "The Taming of the Shrew," "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," and "Carmen."

"The Taming of The Shrew" runs February 15 through March 19. Starring Synetic’s award-winning Founding Choreographer and Associate Artistic Director Irina Tsikurishvili, the Hollywood-set adaptation of one of the Bard’s best known romantic comedies returns! See the original “Battle of the Sexes” enacted with all the fiery and acrobatic motion you’ve come to expect from Synetic! This production will not have dialogue. This production is recommended for ages 14+ for nudity and sexual situations.

"The Hunchback of Notre Dame" runs May 10 through June 11. Synetic’s visionary Founding Artistic Director Paata Tsikurishvili brings his mind-bending, cinematic style to Victor Hugo’s gothic, heartbreaking epic of inner beauty and undying loyalty. When the beguiling dancer Esmerelda captures the heart of the deformed bell-ringer Quasimodo, his adoptive father, the priest Frollo, decides he wants her for himself – plunging all of Paris into a spiral of riots, revolution, and murder. This production will not have dialogue. Recommended for ages 13+ for violence.

"Carmen" runs July 19 through August 13. The award-winning production returns, wordlessly re-imagined to sizzling effect! As the irresistible and fiery Carmen draws the soldier Jose into a forbidden romance, a deadly love triangle emerges – with tragic consequences. Synetic co-founder Irina Tsikurishvili reprises the title role in this newly adapted Synetic classic. Recommended for ages 13+ for violence and adult themes.
