Thus Far Farm is a sustainable family homestead at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We raise heritage breed beef cows, chickens, dairy goats and pigs; plus draft horses Hank & Harry. We are not fancy and we do not follow all the latest fads in agriculture. We just farm (and live) as naturally and simply as possible. Because small farms always need additional income and we live in a beautiful area, we also have lodging for guests. Our 3 bedroom cottage is very comfortable and has AC, TV, washer/dryer, etc – even unlimited wifi. Our tiny houses are totally off-grid. No electricity means no AC or TV. Everything else is there; just gas powered! Small refrigerator, cooktop, kitchen sink with hot water, standard shower with hot water and a heater for winter. All the fans and lights are battery powered; the ceiling fan runs on car batteries. Located on a small creek deep in the woods at the back of the farm property, these tiny houses are the best getaway ever! You can even pay extra for unlimited wifi there, if you just can’t stand being unplugged. We also have cabin tents in another part of the woods. Each of those is a large canvas wall tent (like the ones big game hunters use) on a wood platform, with an aluminum “tin” roof. They are completely furnished with a Cabela camp kitchen, table and chairs, bunk cots, a hi rise air mattress, wood stove for winter (or car battery op fan in summer), an indoor compost toilet, shower shack out back with hot water and heat for winter and so on. The tents have a picnic table and fire pit, but the tiny house do not. We love teaching people what we do here. We’ve spent many years learning skills that our grandparents knew and we, for the most part, live much like them. Thanks to a big bank of solar panels, we do have electricity and running water. Grandpa Jacob Henry knew nothing about that. And we use a computer to run our business, thanks to unlimited wifi. But we have no dishwasher, do not watch TV, sew clothes, can or dehydrate anything that stands still, plus cure and cold smoke our own meat. Its a good life. Lots of hard work, but worth every bit. And we’ve had many people (from over 20 states and 6 other countries) to come visit. Some want to watch what we do, some want to help and others just want to rest and enjoy the beautiful country around here. Then we have all the fun loving Clemson football weekend folks every Fall. So whatever brings people to Thus Far Farm, we like to help make their time here special.
