Award-winning Washington Photo Safari teaches the techniques of photography by taking clients on half-day and full-day photo shoots around key sites of the nation’s capital and other cities, while an accompanying professional photographer offers participants extensive tips in camera use, image composition and design, proper exposure, lighting, and composition . Photographers of all skill levels are invited to participate in the photo Safaris and any camera is acceptable, even cell phone cameras! Washington Photo Safari now conducts 5 to 6 photo excursions every week, rain or shine, throughout the entire year. Safaris are also presented in close-by locations including New York, Frederick, Shenandoah Valley, Annapolis and Baltimore. Principal travel photography workshops cover the major sites of DC including the monuments, memorials, and cathedrals. Beyond these key sites, specialty Safaris are offered in techniques in nature photography (eagles, swans, geese, wolves, elk), f stops and shutter speeds, architectural, model trains, food, pet, macro, waterdrop, museum, abstracts, candid kids, fine arts, creative flash, fireworks, and indoor/outdoor portraiture. Uniquely themed safaris include “Washington DC: Paris on the Potomac,” and “Sunrise on the Potomac.” Special night-time photography workshops are offered including the “Monuments at Night,” and “Moonrise Over the Capitol” During DC’s beautiful cherry blossom season, photo Safaris are provided at least twice a day around the Tidal Basin. Washington Photo Safari also offers one-on-one private tutoring, customized group safaris, and workshops on the most popular DSLR and mirrorless camera models.
Current Safari prices are just $89 for a half-day and $174-$198 for full-day workshops. Prices range from $69 to $99 for “exclusive-access Safaris” in venues such as the Franciscan Monastery, Washington National Cathedral, the Library of Congress, Washington National Airport, the National Gallery of Art., St. Matthews and St, Nicholas Cathedrals, and Mt. Vernon , or day-long excursions to nearby cities In April of 2017 there will be a 7-day photography workshop cruise from Baltimore to the Bahamas. Corporate group rates and personalized gift certificates are also available.
Washington Photo Safari has conducted over workshops that have trained an average of 5 people every day in the techniques of travel, nighttime, landmark, nature and portraiture photography. Averaging just 7 people per group, clients have come from all 50 U.S. states and over 35 countries, including Australia, China, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Liberia, the UK, Mexico and Canada, as well as from the entire DC, Maryland and Virginia region.
