Kingston Farm is a small farm outside of Bathurst in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. We breed and bring on Appaloosas, have a very small but exceedingly good restaurant and provide bed and breakfast accommodation for visitors to this part of the world.
Kingston Farm is a large Edwardian farmhouse, built at the turn of the Nineteenth Century on the site of an older farmhouse.
We offer three self-catering apartments, with fully equipped kitchens, en-suite baths and showers. One of the apartments sleeps four: the others sleep two adults each.
These self-contained apartments are all part of the main house and feature comfortable and elegant décor. Breakfast is available upon request.
The restaurant first opened on April 15th 2007 and has been included in Eat Out magazine’s Top 500 restaurants for 2017, 2016 and 2015. We have also won the Culinary Challenge as part of the Bathurst Country Affair. From time to time, the restaurant hosts a wine pairing and tasting menu.
HISTORY
Kingston Farm was first established by Peter Vallentine of the Nottingham party of settlers in 1828. Shortly thereafter, it was transferred to Philip Tarr and was originally named Tarr Farm. This gentleman’s son, married a Miss Kingston from Kimberly and changed the farm’s name in her honour. Their son, tragically died in the Blauwkranz rail disaster of 1911.
