Jock Safari Lodge

The Legend of Jock concept was born by the descendants of the Sir Percy Fitzpatrick the Niven Family. The Jock concession area is the exact side profile of Jock the dog. There is still a lot of interest in Jock. Richard Kipling on hearing Sir Fitspatrick telling war stories to his children encouraged him to write the adventures of Jock.

Experience wildlife such as the Big 5, like never before, in the 5 star setting of one of the Jock Safari Lodge accommodation options. Fitzpatrick's Lodge at Jock is a 3 room stand-alone lodge offering families personal service in an intimate atmosphere.Carefully screened by lush trees and reed walls, the 12 individual thatched rooms at Jock Safari Lodge, impart a sense of aloneness and oneness with the landscape.

The lodge with 6 000 hectares of natural landscape within the Kruger National Park, offers guests one of the best Big 5 game viewing experiences in South Africa with its exclusive riverbed traversing rights.

Morning and evening drives are performed in covered 4x4 Landrovers conducted by highly experienced rangers, or enjoy a walking safari.

Pilgrim’s Rest, named after the quaint historical mining town featured so prominently in “Jock of the Bushveld” and still in existence today, was a place to rest, rejuvenate and restock. So too is the Relaxation Retreat at Jock Safari Lodge.

Jock Safari Lodge offers all golfers free transfers to Leopard Creek Golf Club just outside the Malelane Gate of the Kruger National Park.

For the avid birdwatcher, abundant species of bird are regularly seen on the concession including raptors such as the Martial, Tawny and Fish Eagles as well as Steppe Buzzards. A wide variety of Bushveld Birds are spotted from the comfort of ones room or whilst lying next to the Rock Pool. Most commonly seen are Hornbills, Starlings, Boubou’s, Shrikes and Woodpeckers to name but a few. The tranquil atmosphere at the Lodge allows for unique birding opportunities as man slows down, finding the rhythm of nature and begins to truly observe.

With the absence of artificial light, the stargazing at Jock Safari Lodge is phenomenal and amongst the best in Southern Africa. Romantic stories of gods and goddesses banished to the heavens are woven into astronomical facts and unfolds before one’s eyes.

Personally assigned rangers will delight in sharing their knowledge of this astounding natural treasure trove of the bushveld and slowly the mysteries of the wild unfold.

Jock Safari Lodge offers road transfers to and from the airport in open game drive vehicles, by a qualified ranger. Upon collection from the airport the adventure begins and refreshments will be served on the journey to the lodge.

Operators are welcome to book these transfers with Jock Safari Lodge with a cost per person, per way. Transfers must be pre booked and prepaid to Jock Safari Lodge. Guest are liable to pay the Kruger Entry Fee. This they can do at the Lodge as we will arrange for the payment at the airport.

With the Skukuza Airport fully operational it will ensure less time travelling for guests as it is only a 1 hour road transfer from the airport to Jock Safari Lodge, whereas the KMIA is 2-3 hours. It is a cost effective way for guests to travel and once guests have landed inside the Kruger National Park they are able to experience game viewing straight away.

Road transfers are done by an accredited company with the applicable liability and insurances in place. All transfers must be booked through the Reservations department prior to arrival. Vehicles used for transfers might change due to availability, but will be similar in size.

Entering Kruger National Park -
Self drive and road transfers from Kruger Mpumalanga Airport (KMIA/MQP) are subject to Kruger National Park gate times. The Kruger National park prohibits the use of roads within the park once the gates are closed; therefore guests need to be at their destination and transfer companies must be outside the park by the time the gates close. Jock Safari Lodge is approximately one (1) hour from the Malelane Gate and therefore we recommend that flights to / from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA/MQP) are booked to:

arrive at KMIA/MQP no later than 14h30 on day of arrival
depart from KMIA/MQP no earlier than 10h00 on day of departure
