“Friends in Bali” was established in 2012 as one of the freelancer activities operator in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia and turned to be a corporation in 2014. It is a small local found company specializes in organizing cycling and trekking trips for traveler based in village of Tampaksiring, Ubud - Bali, Indonesia. Like no other company, Friend in Bali was established to fully support the local young talented Balinese to get a better living. We often learned that due to economic challenge these days, much talent had been kept undeveloped especially young unschooled people in villages where chance of working is quiet limited. In Friends in Bali we encourage them to keep their spirit up, keep learning to get a better earning for their family. We taught them English and Customer Service, then let them guide the guest on cycling or trekking trip where they can genuinely share information about Bali and their culture as Balinese.
We also had started our little foundation “FriendsinBali Charity” where we always allocated funds from guest expenses to provide some school equipment to be donated especially for Elementary school student. Guests are always recommended to join by donating any unused stuffs that probably can be useful for the children during the Cycling or Trekking trip. Two of our activities are;
*Bali Downhill Cultural Cycling Tour - This is an easy pedaled downhill cycling tour which will bring you closer to a part of Bali that is rarely visited by tourists. More than just a fun cycling day out, it is an experience of cultural exploration, which will help you to understand Balinese culture and admire the truth of the beauty of the island. While cycling you have a chance to visit a local school for charity program, organic farm with free coffee tasting, local priest compound visit and many unique activities are inserted, simple but will definitely leave a deep impression of your Bali holiday experience.
We provide you with Hotel pick up and then we drive to the hilly Kintamani volcano area of Bali. On our way, we stop off at the local Village School for you to meet and experience a typical rural Bali school. Our company donates a portion of your tour cost to purchase essential School work items to the children of the School, which will be distributed to the children during your visit. If you like, you can also bring along some extra items to personally give to the children when you visit the School. We then enjoy a light Breakfast, whilst admiring the magnificent view of Lake Batur. After Breakfast, we Cycle downhill from Kintamani to Ubud, which is duration of approx. 3.5 hours Cycle. During the cycle, we experience the rural panoramic areas of Bali while your local, trained guide will explain the culture, traditions and realities of Balinese life and culture.
We then take a visit to a local family compound where we interact with the locals. There will be a local priest who companies you with a cup of coffee while having a genuine conversation with the guide as the translator. This is a great opportunity to learn about Balinese family and rural life. At the finish point later we all have Balinese lunch in the Padi Organic restaurant in the village of Laplapan, which is surrounded by Rice paddies.
Free return transfers to your Hotel is then included.
*Pakerisan Cultural Walk - Pakerisan River and its watershed had been announced as one of Bali’s UNESCO world heritage rites. It includes the famous Tirta Empul holy spring and Gunung Kawi temples and several other historical temples which are seldom known by visitors. We would like to take you into a cultural yet spiritual journey to these important sites in a Cultural Walk. Itinerary begins by hotel pick up in the morning and drive up to Tampaksiring village. First stop is for Charity visit to a village school. Visit Local organic farm to learn about Bali coffees and spices. Starting point will be Pegulingan temple with its remaining archeological Buddhist and Hinduism temples. Purifying blessing bath in Tirta Empul Temple. The walk continues to centuries aged temple of Gunung Kawi, throughout native villages and unexploited rainforest valley. Several breaks are made during the walk where fresh young coconut will be served for refreshment. Visit the locals in their compound as well as explain the community living system of Balinese people. The walk is ended by beautiful view of hectares of rice fields and learning Bali’s old irrigation system of Subak Pulagan which also nominated as one of the eldest Subak in Bali. The whole trip last approximately 6 hours ended by lunch in local restaurant surrounded by rice paddies in the village of Laplapan.
