49 kilometres off the coast of the Bay of Plenty emerges White Island – an active marine volcano of relentless intensity! Join us for a 5 - 6 hour adventure to this exhilarating and enchanting island!
Journey to this fascinating island aboard one of our fleet of boats and discover a vibrant landscape of hissing fumaroles, lava bombs, glittering yellow sulphur crystals, unusual rock formations and hot thermal streams. Venture to the crater’s edge and explore the skeletal remains of an old sulphur mining factory.
Once back on-board there may be time for a swim from the boat before being served a light packed lunch, which can be enjoyed while viewing the outer walls of the island where Pohutukawa forests grow and large Australasian Gannet colonies exist.
Our journey home often provides the opportunity to spend time viewing dolphins, whales and other marine life. We hold the necessary government permits to interact with these animals and it’s a great way to end an already amazing day.
Tours depart daily from Whakatāne, weather dependent. Light packed lunch and refreshments provided.
