Te Ahu Museum and Archives is a Museum based on New Zealand's Far North District. All collections and archival documentation pertain to the history of the Far North area. We hold two of the most earliest artefacts in New Zealand history, De Surville's anchor dated from 1794, which was salvaged from the Bay of Islands and Tangonge, the oldest Maori taonga (treasure) found in the swamps of Kaitaia dated from the 14th to 15th centaury. Along with Maori history and the immigration of the British in the mid to late 19th centaury, and the immigration of Yugoslavians in the early 20th centaury, the Far North District has a cross cultural and wonderful history which can be enjoyed by all.
So come in to Te Ahu Museum and see for yourself the amazing artefacts that we have.
