Rainforest Hideaway Restaurant

The Rainforest Hideaway restaurant in Marigot Bay, St Lucia, is one of the Caribbean’s most famous ‘secret’ restaurants. Listed in Trip Advisor’s Top Ten Fine Dining Restaurants, and always in Trip Advisor’s Hall of Fame. Rainforest has been called ‘the most romantic restaurant in the Caribbean’ and novelist James Michener described Marigot as ‘the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean.’ It’s an amazingly lovely location for a night out as many of the tables look out across the inner bay to the twinkling lights of the yachts and the moonlight on the water and a few tables are actually on the dock looking into the lagoon. Marigot has a lot of history, from piracy in the early days to dramatic sea battles between the French and the English and it’s also been a movie set many times over, starting with the first Doctor Dolittle back in the 1950s. But nowadays it’s just a great place to have dinner in a beautiful harbour with a lot of stories to tell.

Rainforest is still run by the family who built it fifteen years ago, together with a long serving and loyal team who are proud to welcome their guests and make sure they have a wonderful dining experience. It’s a ‘Sophisticated Caribbean’, prix fixe menu with two courses for EC$125 and three courses for EC$150 and the emphasis is on fresh local ingredients, organically grown if possible and with fruits, herbs and spices from our own garden in season. The local pork and fish are always popular and we get great reviews for our steak and jerk chicken dishes, plus of course a daily vegetarian special created by Chef Kairon. Please let us know in advance if you are vegan or have specific allergies and we will make sure that your needs are met. It’s also a mix and match menu - diners pick their main course and then make their own selection of a sauce and two sides to go with it. If you are in a group, it’s fun to share and sample what your friends and family are eating too! Last but not least, the desserts are divine, featuring local fruits and even locally grown and made chocolate from some of the finest cocoa beans in the world.

Rainforest is also the only restaurant in St Lucia (and possibly the Caribbean) which serves the wonderful lionfish, a delicate white fish from the Pacific which was accidentally imported into the Caribbean. It has no predators here except human beings so to stop it from eating all our beautiful local reef fish, we’re eating lionfish ourselves. Dipped in a crunchy, fresh, local coconut batter, it is totally delicious. But Rainforest isn’t just famous for its food, although it’s open every night for dinner from 6pm and Tessie’s bar (featuring spectacular cocktails and classy wines as well as beer and a massive collection of Caribbean rums) is open from 4pm. Live music is also an important part of what we offer and different St Lucian musicians feature five nights a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. During the annual St Lucian Jazz and Arts festival in May Rainforest is an official Jazz Venue and there is music every night – so if that’s when you’re going to be here, you really need to book your table. Check out the dates on our website in advance!

There is no road to Rainforest Hideaway, but it’s just a two minute ferry drive across the bay. You will be welcomed on to the picturesque local ferry by a member of the Rainforest Hideaway team. It’s a shuttle service, the ride takes just two minutes and many guests tell us it’s part of the fun of the evening! We welcome families and the younger ones love the boat ride and like to watch the fish in the Rainforest lagoon, in fact Rainforest has been called an aquarium with a restaurant attached. A small, simple children’s menu is available if they don’t want to eat grownup food! If you are driving, there’s a free, safe car park close to the ferry dock and if you are arriving by boat you can come right onto the Rainforest dock so you won’t need the ferry.
