The Butterfly Conservatory is a Nature Regeneration Project dedicated to the preservation, growth, and study of the rainforest; with focus on butterflies and other tropical rainforest species, such as frogs, lizards, turtles, and plants of the Arenal region of Costa Rica. The project contains the largest exhibition of butterflies in Costa Rica, and is a learning center for understanding the butterfly life-cycle and incredible metamorphosis experience.
Located in one of the most beautiful parts of Costa Rica, where you will have magnificent views of the Arenal Volcano, Lake, and the rainforest reserves surrounding the village. Our amazing tour, the Metamorphosis Encounter, offers a practical educational adventure about nature with diversified exhibits of how butterflies, frogs, insects, and plants are reproduced in this natural environment. Nature enthusiasts of all ages enjoy our interactive educational demonstration of how butterflies and nature are being regenerated.
In addition to visitor tours, we offer exchange opportunities for volunteers, students, researchers, and scientists from around the world to participate in butterfly research and preservation. We also offer a “Butterfly Rearing” internship. This program teaches all aspects of rearing healthy butterflies, learn with hands-on training the methods and techniques needed to become a successful butterfly farmer.
