The Centre of Visual Arts and Research (CVAR), located on Ermou Street in the heart of the walled city of Nicosia, opened in 2014. The CVAR is home to the Costas and Rita Severis collections, which include paintings, antique costumes and memorabilia related to Cyprus and its neighbours. The CVAR also houses a library and research centre whose over 10,000 volumes are available to scholars and casual readers alike. In its café and roof garden, the CVAR screens films and slide shows. On the ground floor, the CVAR hosts a wide range of activities, workshops and seminars supported by the Foundation and its partners to promote understanding and peaceful coexistence.

Come to CVAR for a walk through history and experience the magnificent views described by travelers and visitors centuries ago! From CVAR's unique and historic location, visitors can admire the tiled roofs, the historic palm trees, the countless churches, mosques and monuments of old Nicosia—all with the Pentadaktylos as a breathtaking backdrop.

Mission and Aims: The mission of the Centre for Visual Art and Research (CVAR) is to promote the culture and history of Cyprus both locally and abroad and to become a forum for research, discussion and events related to education and culture, in the framework of reconciliation and understanding among all communities of Cyprus. It is the first and only bi-communal museum in the island working closely with Turkish-Cypriot NGO's. The CVAR was awarded the European Cultural Heritage /Europa Nostra Award Grand Prix 2017 for Education, Training and Awareness- Raising. The four-floor Museum contains over 1500 paintings of Cyprus by foreign artists, over 500 costumes and hundreds of memorabilia covering the 18th to the 20th century Cyprus. There is a special reference to the Medieval period concentrating on the last tragic queen of the island, Caterina Cornaro. The CVAR aims to present an innovative and interactive aspect of the island's history.
