The “Forno Campo di Fiori” has always been a symbol and meeting place in Roman history. At the time of the Papal State, athletic competitions, horse races and capital executions were held in Campo de’ Fiori, as testified by the monument to Giordano Bruno that stands in the centre of the square. The area has been the site of a lively and attractive market surrounded by eating places since 1819. In those days our bakery supplied the most famous of the innkeepers: Vannozza de’ Cataneis, mistress of Pope Alexander VI Borgia and mother of Lucrezia, Cesare, Juan and Jofrè, all born in the palace located between via de’ Cappellari and vicolo del Gallo which still bears the Borgia coat of arms.
From times past to the present day our bread has always delighted famous palates, such as those of Metastasio, Giuseppe Gioacchino Belli, Beatrice Cenci, Gioacchino Rossini and the writer Aldo Palazzeschi, as well as those of all the Romans from the Parione and Regola districts.
Since 1970 the current owners of the Forno Campo de’ Fiori have continued the ancient tradition of handcrafted bread-making, based on the careful choice of raw materials and special care in each stage of the bread-making process, so guaranteeing the consistent high quality of their final products.
