The golf resort Black Stork, A PGA Golf Course, in Veľká Lomnica has a unique location on the south side of the High Tatras and is situated in the Tatra national park in Slovakia. Unspoilt nature, rocky mountains and fresh air – great attributes that have to be seen to be appreciated in 120 hectares of beautiful scenery. There are 27 golf holes (3 combinations of courses), chipping area and putting green, 3 PAR golf academy and simulator, golf equipment and hire shops, golf school and professional tutors.
Each of the 3 nine hole courses has it’s own specific characteristics and are equally attractive with stunning views of the Tatra mountains. From certain holes on course Vardon only the Belianske Tatras are visible, from the others the whole panorama of the central Tatras as well as the lower Tatras, Kráľova hoľa and even Slovensky raj (Slovak paradise)....although surrounded by mountains the golf course is relatively flat and as well as lovely views it has many water features and lakes. The first 9 holes - course Taylor - are played over the Skalnaty potok - stream (sourced from the Skalnaté Pleso - glacial mountain lake), the second - coures Braid - are slightly hillier behind the stream and the third runs alongside the stream. To ensure the quality of the course the design was overseen by Hans Erhardt, a well known Austrian course designer. The driving range is 350 metres long, has 20 covered tees and can be played from both sides. All of the 3 courses start and finish directly by the Hotel International**** with it’s superb restaurant and wellness equipped relax centre – indoor and outdoor pools with counter current, jaccuzzi, dry/steam and infra saunas, gym, plus a spacious terrace area with wonderful views of the Tatras. A charismatic mountain train runs alongside the course and has a station just a few metres from the hotel. Exploring beautiful nature after golf When in the Tatras dont miss the chance to visit Lomnicky štít - peak with it’s overhanging terrace or stay overnight in an apartment at the peak (2634m). For a less demanding walk we recommend the trail from Skalnaté Pleso around Zamkovská chalet towards Rainerova chalet and finally to Hrebienok. For fun and adrenalin lovers there is summer tubing and a downhill run for scooters, gokarts and skateboards, accessed by a modern electric train line. The Tatras are never boring, there are 12 mountain chalets to visit and unforgettable river rafting on the river Dunajec near Cerveny Klástor, go down the Belianska cave in Tatranská Kotlina, there are thermal swimming pools in Poprad and Vrbov, popular historic tours in the Royal cities of Kežmarok, Levoča and Bardejov or see the biggest castle complex at Spissky hrad. After such eventful days there are local speciality dishes to sample in traditional Slovak kolibas where typical dishes such as "bryndzové pirohy" and "halusky" (traditional Slovak pasta dishes with sheep’s cheese) are served, often with live traditional folklore music. Summertime in the Tatras is truly beautiful and colourful especially the late summer season which usually has fine weather. The normal golf season lasts from April until the end of October but can be longer weather permitting.
