Tannin Trail Food and Wine Tours

The steep, winding drive to Ronda hints at something about the wines that are about to tasted on our Ronda wine tour. These are mostly red wines with attitude, as all the vineyards are is situated at an elevation higher than 750m above sea level, that proves elevation matters. Here, guests can sample acclaimed Tempranillo, Cabernet, Syrah, other red blends as well as spicy rosé and fruity whites (most commonly Chardonnay).

Ronda vineyards are mostly all family cellars with humble roots, and the wineries usually pair the passion of husband and wife teams and fabulous terroir to produce exceptional wines. With such wonderful wines, intimate family cellars and splendid scenery no wonder our Ronda Wine Tour is our most popular option!

Although Ronda does have official Spanish D.O. status, there are no native grape varieties, so each winemaker has free reign to use their favourite grape varieties. Each winemaker can therefore apply their passion and extract the best out of each vine. You can therefore be sure to find some wonderful and excellent, full-bodied, well-balanced, powerful, red (and dry white) wines, with faithful reflection of the terroir and climate.

Our Ronda Wine Tour is a popular day outing to two boutique vineyards in the Serrania de Ronda. However, each tasting is still around 2 hours, as the winemasters don’t like their wine to be rushed. You will also taste white and rosé wines too, as each cellar produces between 3 and four wines.

The full wine and food tour visits three of the most interesting cellars in the Serrania de Ronda, meet the winemakers and discover some of the finest wines in Spain. Ronda’s wine making dates back to Roman times, and you may even stumble on a Roman ruin or two on your walk in the vineyards. Enjoy an optional traditional multiple-course lunch prepared by the winemaker straight from his kitchen.

Most importantly, Ronda is very unlike Napa Valley. No queuing, no hordes, no rush, with each winemaker preferring to uncork their creations over a two hour tour and tasting, paired with local tapas. The wineries range from family-run boutique vineyards, to cellars in old converted convents, and lunches are prepared from the winemakers own kitchens.

This is the autenthic Spanish food and wine experience, along with enjoying a bottle or two of local wine between friends, both old and new...
