Essence of Nature's owner, Linda, has been in business online since 1996, but her brick-and-mortar storefront on Elmwood Avenue in Allentown is newly opened. This charming boutique sells a mind-boggling range of goods united by an African and African-American flair: the specialty at Essence of Nature is incense (a wide variety of both imports and handmade, custom-blended domestic incense), as well as shea butter and other all-natural soaps, scrubs, creams and lotions, high-quality attars and other body and fragrance oils, and a hodgepodge of unique decorative items and gifts. The apparel sold here tends toward summery dresses and other casualwear in loud, bold patterns (animal prints are a common trope), as well as handcrafted, one-of-a-kind knitted woolens, shawls and headwraps, jewelry, and other accessories.
