Built on the banks of Shaw's Creek, this national-award-winning heritage building is now "a jewel in the crown of the GTA's arts scene". The Alton Mill is home to some 25 studio artists, galleries, a heritage museum, café and unique shops, while the industrial-chic ambiance makes it the perfect venue to host your event!

With its unique blend of studios, galleries, shops, café and event spaces in a stunning setting, the Alton Mill is a wonderful escape. Here you can discover the perfect piece of art, hand-crafted objects in clay, glass, wood or fibre, and exquisite jewellery. Enjoy the ambiance of a spectacularly beautiful building and its fascinating heritage exhibit. Partake in an art class, take a hike in the woods, skate on the pond, or experience a delectable treat from the Mill Run Eatery. Join us for one of our seasonal events when all studios are open to the public, or check us out as a venue for your next corporate or social function. The Alton Mill has several art and fine craft galleries, a jewellery design gallery and numerous artists and artisans working in their studios and offering one-of-a-kind pieces. We also offer classes and workshops in various media, and visitors can enjoy a healthy lunch or decadent treat in our café.
The people of the mill are pleased to host special events for each season of the year. Our winter Fire and Ice Festival leads to our Spring Open House the first weekend of May. In the autumn we are one of the main venues for the Headwaters Arts Festival and then on to our One-of-a-Kind Christmas shows and events. We also host periodic music and theatrical performances.
The Alton Mill offers a variety of classes and workshops from painting and drawing to photography and pottery. Classes range from beginners and children's classes and camps through master classes for artists looking to hone their technique or discover new media. You can sign up for a regular weekly or semi-weekly class, or a day-long, weekend or week-long workshop. The mill also offers custom corporate team-building or family projects, available to be booked on a one-off basis subject to a minimum number of people.
The Alton Mill was the longest-running water-powered mill on Shaws Creek, and much of the original equipment managed to survive to the present day. Now in collaboration with Peel Heritage, the Turbine Room has been converted into a fascinating interpretative display, highlighting the industrial and social history of Alton. The displays also explain the history and use of various pieces of equipment from the mill's past.
