Amethyst Mine Panorama is Canada's original amethyst mine! This active working amethyst mine is located 60 KM East of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Open to the public from May 15 until October 15, from 10 am until 5 pm. Visitors enjoy digging their own amethyst from our spacious and safe digging area. Pails, digging tools and running water make your amethyst treasure hunt easy and enjoyable. You are guaranteed to find amethyst, and lots of it! Interpretive tours, self-guided signage and amethyst displays provide opportunities for visitors to learn in a fun and relaxed way about the history, mineralogy and geology of amethyst - Ontario's Mineral emblem. Locally hand-crafted amethyst jewellery and gift items, using amethyst from the mine, are available in the Welcome Centre. Enjoy a day in the great outdoors at Amethyst Mine Panorama.
