The Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat is the only human care facility in the world dedicated solely to polar bears. Through exceptional animal care standards, educational programs and research partnerships, the Habitat is an internationally respected centre for polar bears. We are committed to raising awareness about polar bear care, the difficulties they face due to climate change and how these changes are affecting their well-being.
Our bears have access to four enclosures throughout the day equipped with pools, trees, rock and natural vegetation, including the world’s largest enclosure encompassing a natural lake. Visitors have the opportunity to speak one on one with animal care staff during our Meet the Keeper talks or take a dip in our wading pool. Included in admission is our Heritage Village comprised of a train station, homestead, blacksmith shop, doctor's office, butcher shop, shoe repair shop, restaurant, school and trapper’s cabin with artifacts dating back to Cochrane’s beginning. The Antique Snowmobile Museum is another popular feature.
