Our history begins in the early 1950’s when Jeannie & Chuck
O’Hara built their dream home along West Highway 58. The ranch home featured horse stables, a tree covered outdoor patio with billiards table and swimming pool, indoor bar, and recessed seating in the lounge facing one of the two fireplaces. The original bar, fireplaces and outdoor patio featured 56 tons of flagstone rock, hand laid by Navajo Indians from Window Rock, Arizona. Soon the Idle Spurs Ranch became a favorite stop for both travelers and locals alike, serving char-broiled steak dinners with meat from the local Morgan Meat Company, just up the road.
In 1974, the owners of Morgan Meat Company, Morgan and Donna Ray became the new owners of the home, renaming it the Idle Spurs Steakhouse. A larger bar was built in the bedroom area, the fireplace lounge and swimming pool were filled in to create larger lounge and dining areas, and a skylight with live trees and plants were added in the center of the building. Soon a tradition of uncompromising quality, friendly service, and a comfortable and inviting ambiance attracted guests from all over the High Desert and beyond. Morgan’s love for woodworking and all things old west are found throughout the restaurant. Today, the couple’s daughter Judy, and son-in-law Mark carry on that tradition with the same quality meats Morgan served up all those years ago.
Freshly made soups, fresh cut vegetables, and the best imported seafood rounds out a classic steakhouse menu which is available Tuesday through Friday 11am-9pm and Weekends 4pm-9pm. Lunch, served weekdays until 4pm, featuring deli style sandwiches, burgers, and salads. A variety of domestic and imported wines and beer, staff inspired cocktails, and daily Happy Hour are also available. We even cater and host large events and tour groups, parties, and other special occasions for locals and businesses.
Over the years, we have won numerous accolades and been featured on television, both locally and nationally, but the biggest award one of a satisfied guest. Your smiles while visiting our little oasis in the Mojave Desert is all we aspire for and thank you for visiting!
