Visiting the Okefenokee Swamp Park instantly transports you into a prehistoric environment, populated by living dinosaurs – our alligators, as well as unique species of carnivorous plants, rare birds and the opportunity to learn more about the ancient Okefenokee cultures.
Located in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, the Okefenokee Swamp Park is the northern most convenient point of entry and a magnificent show-window for the “Land of the Trembling Earth.” The park’s lily-decked water trails, with their miraculously reflective waters mirroring the overhanging beauty, lead to all points in this vast wilderness of islands, lakes, jungles, forest and prairies. Boat tours on original Indian waterways, wilderness walkways, Pioneer Island and native animals in their own habitat, all combine to weave a spell of pioneer American life. The Okefenokee Swamp is the headwaters of the Suwannee and St. Mary’s Rivers, while the Okefenokee Swamp is a National Wildlife Refuge which covers nearly a half million acres.
Tour packages are available at the Okefenokee Swamp Park which include: boat tours through old Indian waterways, train ride on the "Lady Suwannee" along the edge of the wetlands, alligators, black bears and other wildlife in both captive and free range environments, Pioneer Island homestead with Wildes cabin, low boardwalk trail (which is right on the water surface) to the 90-foot observation tower, history and science/wildlife museums with exhibits and "Eye on Nature" shows with live reptiles and baby alligators where you get to touch them. Typically we recommend you allow 3 to 3 1/2 hours to see and do everything at the park.
Be sure to visit for our ANNUAL HOLIDAY LIGHT SHOW each year from Black Friday to the end of December when the swamp lights up with thousands and thousands and thousands of lights as the swamp and park are turned into a winter wonderland.
