Located in Boise’s Old Penitentiary Historic District, the Idaho Botanical Garden is dedicated to enhancing the community’s quality of life through fostering a love of nature and developing intellectual curiosity in people of all ages. Originally the site of the tree nursery and grounds of the State Penitentiary, the Garden is a living museum.
Nestled at the base of the Boise Foothills, the Garden provides enriching garden experiences through educational programs, botanical collections, a variety of entertainment, cultural and community events. It is also a refreshing and inspiring year-round outdoor destination for local residents and out-of-town visitors and a beautiful location to host weddings, celebrate birthdays and hold private events. Each year, the Garden brings the community to a variety of events that highlight the Garden through music, art, and seasonal celebrations.
The Idaho Botanical Garden is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization. A private entity, it receives no city, state or federal government funding for operations. The Garden relies on memberships, program fees and donations to sustain educational programming and plant collections and to enable future development.
When you visit, you'll find a lush 15-acre tapestry of dappled shade and vibrant splashes of color. The Garden promotes gardening in the Treasure Valley using native and domestic plants that are adapted to the intermountain region. It is home to over 800 species of plants, from 42 families, located in 14 specialty gardens.
During non-event days, guests may choose to see the Garden on their own or take a guided tour by appointment. Enjoy a variety of events year-round including the family-friendly Bug Day, Fall Harvest Festival, and the popular light festival Winter Garden aGlow or musical events such as the intimate local concerts within the Garden at Great Garden Escape or the popular Outlaw Field Summer Concert Series featuring national recording artists.
