Winnebago Historical Society is an non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and presentation of local and regional history. The organization was founded in 1960 and consists of four major properties of historical significance.
The first flagship property acquired in 1976 is the 1900 Home of banker Charlie Thompson on North Clark Street. It is called the Mansion Museum. This home today presents the originality of the home plus three levels of local history. The south end of the complex is the home to the Leibrand/Whiteis Research Library which links many families to their past histories from their archives.
Heritage Park of North Iowa is locates south of Forest City and contains 91 acres with over 40 buildings that take visitors to an era their ancestors experienced many decades ago.
The fourth complex of the organization is the 1874 Trinity Church just one block from the Mansion Museum. This church is the oldest church and oldest building still standing on its same location for the public to see and experience.
There are many events during the years involving all the properties. Visiting our website or Winnebago Historical Society on Face Book will guide you to the times and locations of an organization fully committed to preserving our past for the future.
