Opened in 2004, The East Kentucky Science Center contains an exhibit area, science classroom, gift shop, and one of the most technologically advanced planetariums in the country. Approximately 10,000 school children and adults visit the center each year for a variety of classroom lessons, planetarium programs, and laser shows.
The Science Center is also used by community groups, and Science Center is usually present at many community events and functions.
The EKSC programming consists of 14 planetarium shows, 40 classroom and outreach lessons, and 26 laser shows. The exhibit hall has a variety of hands-on activities, while the classroom contains a variety of live animals.
The EKSC is open to school groups Tuesday through Friday mornings and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday afternoons.
