Regional Transit Authority (RTA) in New Orleans

The Regional Transit Authority gets over 60,000 daily riders moving around New Orleans. At present, the RTA system includes five streetcar lines and over 33 bus routes, and offers special Paratransit services to the disabled. Our fleet of 151 buses and 60 Paratransit Lift vehicles operate on environmentally-friendly B5 Biodiesel fuel, travelling over 14,000 miles each day.

The RTA's streetcars are charming, attractive, and timeless, so it's no surprise that groups and individuals often ride the streetcar through our historic neighborhoods, and even book them for private events. The St. Charles Streetcar Line was named a National Historic Landmark on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 by the Department of the Interior. One of the first passenger railroads in the country, it began in 1835 and remains the oldest continuously operating street railway in the world.

For faster boarding and for the best value, purchase a 24-hour Jazzy Pass prior to boarding. Purchase them via RTA’s GoMobile ticketing application, at Ticket Vending Machines, local businesses such as Walgreens; or purchase them online to have them delivered to your door. Jazzy Passes can save you money by offering unlimited rides and transfers on all Orleans Parish Buses and Streetcars, just by scanning your Jazzy Pass card each time you board.

Our transit services bring commuters to jobs, students to schools, and fun-seekers to entertainment, shopping, and restaurants. We provide mobility to residents of the city as well as to large numbers of tourists, taking them to and from their hotels to historic neighborhoods and countless attractions. In fact, many visitors and locals ride the RTA’s iconic streetcars simply for the fun of it. In this way, the RTA is a destination in itself. Our streetcars and buses are both a symbol of the city and an essential part of it.
