The National Eagle Center is a world-class interpretive center located on the banks of the Mississippi River in Wabasha, MN. We are home to non-releasable bald and golden eagles.
This unique area is home to both North American eagle species, the bald eagle and the golden eagle. Golden eagles can be seen here in winter months, though rarely close to the river. We continue to learn more about golden eagles in this region through our Golden Eagle Project. The Upper Mississippi River Valley is home to hundreds of bald eagles. Many choose to build their nests in the tall trees along the river valley. Hundreds more bald eagles arrive here in the winter months, as the Mississippi River remains open around Wabasha year round.
During a visit to the National Eagle Center, you can experience these magnificent creatures up close without separation by glass or screen. We provide daily live eagle programs in our classroom where our expert naturalists educate our visitors on the history, biology and behavior of these magnificent raptors. Our facility also houses two floors of interactive exhibits covering eagles and other North American raptors as well as the Upper Mississippi River watershed. Our location right on the river provides excellent opportunities to view wild bald eagles in their natural habitat.
