Established in 1926, the historic Gillioz Theatre resides on Route 66, the famous highway that represented a new level of western expansion in the United States. Founded as a hybrid theatre; part vaudeville/part silent film, the theatre flourished for years. As vaudeville perished, silent films gave way to "talkies", movies with sound.
The Gillioz became a straight movie theatre, and even premiered a few films, most notably two films starring future United States President Ronald Reagan, who would make a live appearance for one of the releases.
The theatre closed in 1979 and fell into disrepair, before the community rallied around the structure and saw her fully restored and reopened in 2006. Now the Gillioz is on the United States Congress Registry of Historic Places, and functions once again as a hybrid house - blending live entertainment and film with corporate and community functions.
The theatre is a lavish architectural blend of Spanish-Moroccan and Egyptian influences that have been restored to their original state. Guided tours are available, and the theatre is ranked as the top event venue in the community by multiple media sources.
