Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary

The Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary is a non-profit organization located in the small community of Red Lodge, Montana outside of the northwest entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Our mission is to provide lifelong sanctuary to non-releasable native Montana wildlife while sharing a message of education and conservation. We have been established since 1987 and currently provide sanctuary to a biodiverse set of 45 animals representative of the Greater Yellowstone Region. These are animals that could not be rehabilitated or released into the wild and would be euthanized without the devoted staff and supporters of YWS. For the animals that end up in our care, we provide habitats and enrichment programs that lead to fulfilling lives outside of the wild.

We also utilize our residents for educational purposes. We strive to teach visitors and the surrounding communities about the ecological importance of each species we have at the sanctuary. We offer educational programming across five counties for kids K-12 that focuses on learning about native Montana wildlife while fostering environmental stewardship at a young age. Through these programs and educational tours for visitors at the sanctuary, we hope to connect our animals at the sanctuary with their wild counterparts, hopefully leading to a greater appreciation and desire to protect the species that make the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem so extraordinary.

Stop by and visit! Our summer hours are Wednesday-Monday 10AM-4PM. Winter hours Saturday-Sunday 10AM-4PM. We also offer private tours for groups that want to make a visit to the sanctuary even more extraordinary. Come see our favorite wild residents including black bears, raptors, bobcat, mountain lion, wolf, red foxes, and more! Fun the whole family can howl about. Make sure to check out our website for more information or follow us on Facebook.
