Flatwater Folk Art Museum

The Flatwater Folk Art Museum's folk art is housed in an 1884 American Prairie Gothic church building that was relocated to the historic village of Brownville, Nebraska (USA) situated at the edge of the heartland prairie, adjacent to the tree-covered picturesque rolling Loess Hills overlooking the 1804 Lewis & Clark campsite on the Missouri River. The church structure was renovated and redesigned internally for professional museum display and function which utilizes the historic physical qualities of scale and space of the original church sanctuary.

It is an art collection of vernacular expressions and creations reflecting the human spirit and the passion of common folk celebrating the diverse and universal traditions of life's experience, ceremony and rituals... the museum's collection, exhibitions and folk-life programs illuminate and document valued aspects of American culture the the aesthetics of daily life ranging from historic traditional folk art and crafts, naive expressions to contemporary outsider art and are displayed thematically in themes such as Native American, Early American, Southwest, Fishing Lures, Duck Decoys, Game Boards, Outsider Art including toys, pottery, needle art, whirligigs, weather vanes and many other art objects made by "folks."

The Flatwater folk Art Museum is a project of the Flatwater Art Foundation, a non-profit educational organization that aims to foster, initiate and present visual art activities and programs through unique cultural and educational experiences serving the American Heartland through the development of aesthetic and visual literacy.
