Snakeroot offers custom tours of one of the wildest and most scenic corners of Western North Carolina. We are located 40 miles NE of Asheville, in one of the most diverse temperate ecosystems in the world. The Black Mountains, the tallest peaks east of the Mississippi, rise above our Toe River Valley. Follow creeks from their headwaters in the mossy spruce-fir forest at six thousand feet above sea level, past hidden waterfalls, and rich wildflower coves to the South Toe River. Explore the rarest of all habitats, the Southern Appalachian bog.

Each spring, we offer walks to wildflower coves. During the summer and fall, we hunt for rare orchids and offer bog walks and nighttime firefly outings. And all year round, we offer outings for the more adventurous: bushwhacks up mountain ridges, hunts for hidden waterfalls and swimming holes, and trail running tutorials.
