The DeBence museum is located at 1261 Liberty Street in downtown Franklin, Pennsylvania, USA, 25 miles south of where Colonel Drake drilled the world's first oil well and 16 miles north of Interstate 80. We are the largest museum of our type open to the public in the United States. We are a see and hear museum, and in contrast to many museums housing self playing musical instruments, ours are played for everyone taking the guided tours we offer. DeBence Antique Music World displays a collection of over 10O self playing mechanical musical instruments ranging from small cylinder music boxes to a wide variety of record players, and large outdoor carousel organs. Our total collection of all types of instruments numbers over 325 units, including several one of a kind machines. The Berry-Wood AOW Orchestrion is the only one left in existence. We also hold a 1930 Wurlitzer prototype band organ which is regarded as the pinnacle of Merry-Go-Round band organ design, but was never put into production. Our calliope built by The Artizan Works in 1927 is the last original one playing anywhere. The collection continues to grow through additions of donated instruments each year. In 2015 we received over 30 items this way. Mostly through this method we now house a collection of 42 foot pumped Reed Organs, 34 Hammond Organs, and many radios and radio-phonograph combinations.
