Each weekend from June through October, guided tours are given of the Eagle Ironworks Furnace - the last waterwheel-powered cold blast charcoal furnace in operation in the U.S.A. (1820-1921) and the Roland Curtin Ironmaster's Mansion, built in 1830. The Federal-style Mansion is furnished with period antiques and family heirlooms. Displays of local Native American arrowheads and antique farm equipment as also on display, as well as Pennsylvania Governor Andrew Curtin's personal carriage from the mid-1800s. Visitors can picnic at the outdoor pavilion, see the log cabin in the workers' village, and explore adjacent Bald Eagle Creek at their own leisure. The historic site is a lovely place to take photographs.
Note: Weddings are not allowed to be performed at the historic site and the Mansion does not offer overnight accommodations.
Hours: Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sundays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. - last tour starts at 3 p.m. Admission: $4 for adults; $1 for children 12 yrs. and under.
