The Utah Shakespeare Festival is a regional Tony-Award winning professional repertory theatre company that produces Shakespeare, classical drama, comedies, and musicals. Other related activities include Greenshows, orientations, seminars, classes, backstage tours, Words Cubed new play series, and a Shakespeare-in-the-Schools tour. Nine plays are performed in rotation in two state-of-the-art indoor theatres, as well as a brand new outdoor theatre resembling an Elizabethan playhouse. The season begins the end of June and runs through October each year. Founded in 1961, it is one of the oldest and largest Shakespearean festivals in North America.
The Festival is located at the new Beverley Center for the Arts in Cedar City, Utah, a community of approximately 28,000 people, and is within a day’s drive of seven national parks and numerous national and state forests, monuments, and recreation areas. Via Interstate-15, it is two and a half hours northeast of Las Vegas, Nevada, and three and a half hours south of Salt Lake City, Utah. The Festival is located on and around the Southern Utah University campus. Its annual budget is over $6 million and it attracts nearly 130,000 guests each year.
The 2017 season includes Shakespeare's As You Like It, Romeo and Juliet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as Shakespeare in Love, Guys and Dolls, Treasure Island, The Tavern, How To Fight Loneliness, and William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged).
