Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Early Mountain sits on land with a deep and rich history. The first landowner of the property was Revolutionary War veteran Lieutenant Joseph Early, who served under General George Washington at Valley Forge. After Early’s death, Washington later visited the farm remarking in his journal about the warm hospitality provided by Early’s family.

In 2005, Jess and Sharon Sweely planted the first vineyards on the property. Jean Case and her husband, Steve, purchased the property in 2010 and, after some renovations, re-opened it under the Early Mountain brand in 2012. In 2015, Early Mountain expanded its acreage to include Quaker Run Vineyard, 14 miles north of the Early Mountain estate in Madison County. That year, Early Mountain increased its acreage of classic Bordeaux-type varietals such as Cabernet Franc and Merlot and added new varietals including Malvasia Bianca, Sauvignon Blanc, and Tannat.

In 2016, Early Mountain Vineyards was voted the number one tasting room in the nation by USA Today in its 10Best Readers Choice contest. Guests may visit our tasting room for our award-winning wines or to dine in our restaurant. Step up to our polished concrete tasting bar for a sampling of our current wine releases. For $12, you can taste through a selection of 5-6 wines guided by our knowledgeable and friendly staff. Keep an Early Mountain stemless glass to take home with you. One of the special things about Early Mountain is our "Best of Virginia" program where we feature a curated list of wines from great vineyards all over the state of Virginia. Our flight program is a great way to sample and compare several wines in one sitting. Flights typically range in price from $16 to $20.

We believe the best of Virginia wine is complimented by the best food the region has to offer. Our tasting room also serves a full restaurant menu allowing you to stay for a leisurely meal while taking in stunning views of the Blue Ridge foothills.
