Something so unbelievable and world-class in Virginia Beach…
"It" is called the Military Aviation Museum. It is one of the gems in the crown of Virginia Beach. People come from all over the world and plan their vacations around seeing this unique and extensive collection.
Seventy-five years ago the world was in flames. America and her Allies pulled the world from those flames, and, as a Navy veteran, you know that much of that effort had to do with dominance in the air. Our museum’s mission is about the first 50 years of military aviation - from the Wright brothers to the jet age. Here's what makes this museum magnificent:
- One of the largest collections in the world of legendary military aircraft that still fly.
- More than 60 American, British, Canadian, Soviet, and German trainers, bombers, and fighters displayed in period hangars
- No ropes or barriers around the planes. Kids can crawl under them and see them up close.
- 105 + acres of open green space, with a free picnic area and dinosaur park (free dinosaur game and prize for kids).
- A World War II Control Tower from England, just like in "Twelve O'Clock High" that we transported from the first air base in England to be turned over to the Americans in 1942. It's not a replica- it's the actual tower from RAF Goxhill in North Lincolnshire, UK.
- An actual German Luftwaffe flight training school hangar that was built in 1934 in Cottbus, Germany. We took it down and re-erected on the museum property to house our growing German collection.
- A flight in a World War II trainer where one can experience what it was like to train by taking a flight in an actual open cockpit biplane. Hear and smell the engine and listen to the flying wires sing in the wind for a once-in-a-lifetime experience you will never forget!
All this and more lies just 20 minutes from Rudee Inlet, and if you haven't been here recently I'd love to give you a complimentary "Pre" visit that I will personally conduct for you and a guest.
And, if the day is one with good flying weather and we have a biplane ride slot available, we'll show you the beauty of southern Virginia Beach, the ocean, and the Inter-Coastal Waterway from the air.
We have something for kids of all ages… our historic aircraft and of course, there are the Dinosaurs that guard the portal to the past… our Dinosaur Park.
Take a journey back in time to when aircraft were spectacular and heroes never let us down. The Military Aviation Museum displays and owns the largest private collection of flying vintage WWI and WWII Military Aircraft in the U.S.A.
