The Science Museum of Virginia has hundreds of hands-on experiences to amaze and inspire you! Along with fun ways to explore science, our exhibits provide many ways of meeting the Scientific Investigation, Reasoning and Logic strands in the Virginia Standards of Learning. The mission of the Science Museum of Virginia is to inspire Virginians to enrich their lives through science. The Museum is a catalyst for inspiration, a place that sparks curiosity and generates ideas in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Through hundreds of experiential exhibits, awe-inspiring artifacts and interactive technologies, the Museum presents dynamic science programming to hundreds of thousands of guests each year.
The Museum features permanent exhibitions about space, health, electricity and Earth—to name a few—and hosts visiting exhibitions from around the world. Our 76-foot Dome Theater features live astronomy presentations, Cosmic Expeditions, and Giant Screen Movies on the most technologically advanced digital dome theater in the world. Recently upgraded, The Dome features a state-of-the-art NanoSeam™ screen and projectors capable of high definition ten times the power of your home theater system.
The Museum is open 9:30 am - 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday and 11:30 am - 5 pm on Sunday. The Museum is open to the public on Mondays from Memorial Day to Labor Day and the following dates only: Monday, December 19, 2016, Monday, December 26, 2016, Monday, January 16, 2017, Monday, February 20, 2017 and Monday, April 10, 2017.
