The Pearl S. Buck Birthplace is nestled in the heart of the Monongahela National Forest on beautiful Route 219 (The Seneca Trail) in Hillsboro, WV. The home, which was constructed in the mid-to-late 1800s, is a fully restored museum showcasing the place in which the Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning author was born in 1892. The home site includes 13 acres of scenic farmland, a period-era carpentry shop and barn with historic farm and woodworking tools. The location is open for tours during the summer months.
The museum complex is filled with rich anecdotes and fascinating objects from Buck's life in both America and China, as well as from the lives of her immediate family and ancestors. Visitors will find stories and objects that appeal to a wide range of interests, including: architecture, woodworking, furniture, music and art, clock and watch making, quilts, fashion, hats, and dressmaking, antique toys, authors, writing, and books, homesteading/self-sufficiency, historical tools/implements, Chinese culture, Dutch culture, and missionary work.
