Durham Cathedral was founded in 1093 to be the final resting place of St Cuthbert, a role which it continues to perform to the present day. Visitors can access the Shrine of St Cuthbert in the Feretory as well as the tomb of the Venerable Bede in the Galilee Chapel. Durham Cathedral is a World Heritage Site and has been a place of worship for nearly one thousand years maintaining a busy service schedule. Access to parts of the Cathedral may be limited during services. There is no admission charge to the Cathedral but donations are welcome.

Guided Tours take place most days except Sundays, please check tour availability and purchase tickets on the day of your visit at the Visitor Desk in the Cathedral. The completed model of Durham Cathedral in Lego remains on display in the undercroft, next to the Cathedral Shop and the Undercroft Restaurant. The Cathedral Shop stocks a wide range of locally-sourced bespoke gifts as well as an array of theological books. The Cathedral Shop is open Monday to Saturday 9.00am – 5.30pm and 12 noon - 5.00pm on Sunday.
