Mirehouse is a family home, set in stunning Lake District landscape. We are open to visitors of all ages (from April to October) to visit the house (3 afternoons a week) or the gardens, lakeside walk and playgrounds (everyday). The gardens and grounds stretch between Bassenthwaite Lake and Skiddaw range of hills. The gardens are informal and complement their lovely natural setting rather than compete with them. They include a walled garden, specially planted up for bees and butterflies, a heather maze to burn off excess energy, woodland playgrounds, unusual rhododendrons and grand Scots Pine and Oaks. A poetry walk and nature trails keeps all the family happy.

The house has on display unusual literary connections, letters and manuscripts, Lakeland landscapes and beautiful furniture. Piano music flows from room to room as visitors wander through the house. Children are welcome, with a Victorian nursery to play in and a history trail to entertain them.
