The Hollies is a newly refurbished 'Victorian Gentlemen's Residence' offering both B&B and self catering accommodation situated on the north side of Appleby just 1/2 mile from Appleby station on the world famous Settle - Carlisle railway. Dogs welcome.

Our attached dog friendly self catering lodge is a charming cottage dating from around 1890. It was built as a museum attached to the main house & retains some of its original pine cladding. It has a fully accessible ground floor with one double/twin room & with 2 more bedrooms & a shower room upstairs, sleeping a total of 7.

Sitting in 3 acres of grounds and woodland with spring and summer wild flower meadows. Blending homely Victorian elegance with modern facilities and 'green' credentials we provide the perfect base to explore by foot cycle or car. Boot room & secure cycle/bike storage. Charging point for electric cars.

Access statement
The lodge has 3 steps to the front door & no handrail. Paved level access leads to the back door, no steps or ramps. The ground floor is fully accessible to H2 V1 M2 standards & has a 4 star Gold VE grading. Full details are available on request.
The kitchen has a 'rise & fall' unit with sink, hob & worktop. Also oven, fridge/freezer & washer/dryer. A full wet-room with shower & separate bath is located by the bedroom which has a flexible layout with a king-size double or 2 single beds available.

What to do in Sunny weather
Explore the historic county town of Appleby, with the aid of our blue badge guide if you wish. Riverside walks & no shortage of footpaths to explore locally. Within 5 miles is the Pennine hills to the North & limestone pavements to the south. Three national & many local cycle ways pass through Appleby. You can even hire electric bikes locally.
Within a hours drive is most of the Lake District to the west & all the Northern Dales to the east or Hadrian's wall to the north. South takes you to the rolling Howgill Fells. Or for something completely different take a day to enjoy a trip using the world famous Settle - Carlisle railway; Appleby station 1/2 mile.

What to do in wet weather
If you are not a wet weather walker then try Appleby Castle, Lowther Castle, Brougham Castle & craft workshops.
Perhaps High Cup Winery with it's local geology exhibition, then on to Acorn Bank, National trust property with its watermill. By Penrith is Dalemain House & the Rheged Centre. A little further to Little Salkeld watermill with its 2 working wheels still producing flour every day. There any number of indoor attractions in the Lake District. Alternatively head east to Barnard Castle with it's umpteen antique shops & The Bowes Museum.
