The perfect way to start your visit to Rye!

Situated in a converted sailmaking loft on the quayside of the town, Rye Heritage Centre hosts the 'The Story of Rye', a unique Sound & Light Show centred on a beautifully crafted 1:100 scale model of Victorian Rye.
As the stories of Rye's history and folklore unfold, the commentary is enhanced by dramatic sound and light effects, all of which combine to capture the imagination in a way that is sure to echo in your mind as you explore the cobbled streets and passages of the town. Shows are at 30 minute intervals throughout the day, and are available in English, French , German or Spanish.

On the upper floor of the centre is the Old Pier Penny Arcade, one of the UK's largest collections of working antique amusement machines such as What the Butler Saw and The Laughing Sailor, as well as fortune tellers, and moving models. They are all operated with the old English penny that stopped circulation in 1971. These are readily available to buy at the Heritage Centre, so the machines can be played and enjoyed by all.

We also hire out self guided audio tours of Rye, and have an extensive collection of guidebooks and maps on Rye and the surrounding area to help you make the most of your time in our beautiful town.
We are open 7 days a week between March and October, from 10am to 5pm, and look forward to seeing you soon!
