Occupying a former Catholic Church, Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery is the ideal first-stop for anyone visiting the Alnwick area. Discover the rich history and culture of this special region. Ten thousand years of history are depicted through artefacts, colourful panel texts, photographs and interactive activities, suitable for all ages. Try on some Border Reivers armour, sit at an Edwardian school desk and try your hand at some of the exercises, do a brass rubbing and learn how Alnwick was at the forefront when it came to printed information.
In our gallery we have a rolling programme of exhibitions, including art, local crafts, history, culture, and much more, so there is always something new to see. There is also an "art cart" with colouring and other art activities for children linked to our current exhibition. We often have a puppet theatre and dressing up costumes for all ages.
Throughout the year we have talks, concerts and workshops. On Thursdays in the school holidays we have activities for all the family with one or more of the following: art, craft, storytelling, and object handling .
In spite of being in a former church our displays are all fully accessible. We have an entrance at street level and a lift to all floors. There is an accessible toilet and we also have baby changing facilities.
We also have a fantastic shop selling gifts, toys and books which is worth a browse even if you don't have time to visit the museum.
We are open Tuesdays to Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays from 10 am to 4 pm.
Admission £4 for adults, £3 concession, £1 for children age 5-16. Under 5s come free.
