Lorne House is a large luxuriously styled Victorian villa offering visitors a quintessentially British smart and sophisticated place to stay. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms or wet-rooms and beautifully furnished interiors.

The childhood home of Thomas the Tank Engine author Reverend W.V. Awdry, Lorne House's proximity to Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s famous Great Western Railway and Box Tunnel provided the inspiration for the Reverend's stories. The Awdry family visited us in in 2012 to unveil the lovely blue plaque adorning Lorne House which commemorates Reverend Awdry's life and works.

Lorne House is situated in the village of Box, very close to local villages of historic charm and interest such as Lacock, Castle Combe, Bradford on Avon, Corsham and Avebury. Bath is just 6 miles away - the short bus journey from Box helps avoid the Bath traffic queues and parking prices. There are several pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance and a great range of restaurants and hostelries within a 15 minute drive.

Lorne House has beautifully designed bedrooms all of which have en-suite wet rooms with invigorating showers; two rooms also have baths. We can provide varied accommodation as single occupancy, double, twin as well as triple and quad rooms.
Guests can relax and enjoy a good night’s sleep in our Egyptian cotton bed linen; all rooms are equipped with a flat screen TV, free WIFI internet connection, coffee and tea, a hairdryer and ironing board and iron. Laundry facilities are also available upon request (a small fee applies). Our guests have the choice of coffee, tea, juices, cereals, toast and preserves to compliment a full English or Continental breakfast.

Lorne House is nestled on the southern slope of the By Brook Valley and falls within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty making us the perfect location from which to explore West Wiltshire and the city of Bath. Bath is an impressive and exiting place to visit, with its Roman Baths, Norman Abbey and Georgian Crescents. There are city tours which take place everyday including bus, boat and walking.
A short drive takes the visitor to Castle Combe and Lacock both of which are National Trust villages and are frequent locations for TV film and period dramas. The ancient stone circles of Avebury and Stonehenge are both within easy driving distance.
