RSPB Troup Head

The high cliffs of Troup Head provide a spectacular setting for Scotland’s only mainland gannet colony. There are also thousands of kittiwakes, guillemots and razorbills, along with several other species, including puffins. You may even be lucky enough to see porpoises, minke whales or dolphins offshore. Please take care on the cliffs.
Open at all times. Free entry but any donations go to help our work. Dogs should be kept under close control due to the exposed cliff edges and nesting birds.
By road, signposted off the B9031 between Pennan and Gardenstown, east along the coast from Macduff; you will also see a sign for Northfield Farm at this turn off. Follow the RSPB brown signs until the reach Northfield Farm. Continue through the farmyard and onto a rough track until you reach the Troup Head reserve car park. Park here and take the right hand track through a gate (following RSPB brown signs) and follow the fence line through the field. Follow the track through the gorse until you reach the fence with the gate. Go through the gate and walk left up and over the hill, following the fenceline until you reach the seabird colony. 1 mile (1.6 km) long nature trail. Flight of steps. Narrow in places. Uneven and unsurfaced.
Nearest train station is Huntly (31 miles). Nearest catering facilities, toilets, including accessible and baby changing facilities, in Banff, 11 miles (17 km) away
