Glamping Accommodation in Scotland in the Outer Hebrides. Family Friendly and Dog Friendly, our Shepherd’s Huts and Camping Pods are a short walk from a stunning Hebridean beach and spectacular sea cliffs on the Mangersta headland. Our glamping site is located on a working croft in Mangersta, a tiny village of only 13 houses on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. We keep a small herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle and a flock of Black-face sheep on our croft and Mangersta Common Grazings.
Each of two Wigwams® sleeps up to 4 people. Each of two Shepherd’s Huts sleeps up to 2 people. Please check our website for availability and online booking. All units are equipped with mini-kitchens with cooking utensils, pots, pans and crockery for self-catering and have private en-suite shower rooms. Guests can bring their own bedding and towels or there is the option to hire these at an additional cost. There is a dry stone walled fire-pit where visitors can enjoy Barbecues and Campfires under star filled skies. Due to our remote location on the North Atlantic coast there is no light pollution. On a clear night the Milky Way is visible and on occasions the Northern Lights. For lovers of the Great Outdoors, wildlife and nature we make the perfect retreat, with miles of unspoilt coastline to explore from the doorstep. Mealaisbhal – the highest hill on the Isle of Lewis - is close-by and there are numerous shell sand beaches within the surrounding district of Uig. Mangersta Croft Holidays are located in a National Scenic Area and look across to the Uig Hills which were recently designated as a Wild Land by Scottish Natural Heritage.
Useful info for travelling here : 1hr drive from the ferry port in Stornoway: 1hr 15min drive from Stornoway Airport; 1.5 hrs drive from the Tarbert Ferry, 2 hrs drive from the Leverburgh Ferry. If travelling to the Western Isles in the summer by ferry it is advisable to book with Caledonian MacBrayne ferries at the same time as booking accommodation as the ferries can get very busy.
Guests are advised to either buy supplies in Stornoway/Tarbert/Leverburgh or to stop at Uig Community Shop on the way here which is a 10 min drive from our site. The shop is well stocked with groceries, fuel and also has launderette facilities. There are several cafes in the Uig area serving delicious home made food - Uig Community Centre Cafe, The Edge Cafe, Loch Croistean - and a small community museum with informative exhibits on local history, geneaology, archaeology and in particular the Lewis Chessmen; Norse chess pieces found in Uig in the 1800's. Guests are also welcome to visit Mangurstadh Gallery, our own small studio gallery on-site which displays art and craft, inspired by the natural beauty of the Outer Hebrides. The Callinish Stones, a complex of prehistoric stone circles, to rival Stonehenge are a 45min drive from Mangersta. Local company SeaTrek is based in Uig. One of their boat trips out into Loch Roag, around the Uig coastline or further afield to the World Heritage Site of St Kilda should be on any adventure traveller's bucket list.
We love welcoming visitors to Mangersta Croft Holidays and sharing the incredible wildlife and scenery of our remote location with you.
