Get kitted up and explore the virtually untouched abandoned workings of an old Welsh Slate Mine. Hidden deep in the mountains of Southern Snowdonia, the old Braich Goch mine was first worked in 1836 and abandoned by the miners in the 1970s. There are more than 130 years of mining history lying abandoned and forgotten ready to be explored.
In the company of one of Britain's best Mine Explorers you will enter the dark abandoned workings and with just the light from your cap lamp you will discover tunnels, hand dug by Victorian miners, and vast underground chambers. Lying discarded in the mine, you will find old machinery, miners' tools, candles, drinking vessles and discarded cigarette packets. Stories of life in the mine spill out in such a way you can almost feel it creaking back to life.
Corris Mine Explorers offers 3 trips - a Half Day Mine Expedition (minimum age 13), a 2 hour Mine Exploration (minimum age 10) and a 1 hour Taster Trip (minimum age 8). The 2 hour Mine Exploration and the Half Day Mine Expedition can be largely tailored to your interests be it history, adventure or something more adrenalin pumping.
