Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden

This oldest university botanical garden in South Africa dates back to 1902 and has been located on the current site since 1921. It is a real gem and small oasis in the hustle and bustle of a busy Boland town.

With more than 3000 species in our collection, you can se plants from all over the world alongside our indigenous Cape flora. Some of these plants simply grab the imagination! Highlights include our vegetable and herb garden, the three tropical, arid and karoo-glass houses, and the water lily ponds which showcase a.o. the Victoria amazonica and lotus lilies. The Western Cape Bonsai Heritage Collection is one of the finest bonsai tree collections in South Africa and includes a penjing collection, well worth your visit.

The garden has a gift shop selling seeds, soaps, books, spices, bottled water and various body and health products made from indigenous plants. There is also a small plant sales area next to the shop.

The Katjiepiering Restaurant in its beautiful setting in the middle of the garden offers a genuine Boland hospitality experience. It is indeed a tranquil haven and perfect venue for every mealtime and occasion, from leisurely breakfasts to alfresco lunches, delicious afternoon tea or fine dining by candlelight. Contact Niel Lambrecht for bookings on: +27 (0)21 808 3025 or email: katjiepieringrestaurant@gmail.com

Entrance fee is R10 per person of which R5 is redeemable at the shop or restaurant.
