After the Annapurna Region and Everest Region, Langtang is the third most popular trekking region in Nepal. It is directly north of the Kathmandu Valley, and it requires no flights, just a bus ride from Kathmandu. The region is protected by the Langtang National Park, established in 1976, as the first Himalayan National Park.Langtang National Park is the second largest national park of ten parks in Nepal. It covers an area of 1710 square kilometers. About 25 percent of the area is covered by the forest. The park is mostly inhabited by the Tamang people, who are known for their hospitality and rich culture. Langtang area is full of Tamang art and culture, including the Buddhist spiritual sites Kyanjin Gompa and Sing Gompa. The Gosaikunda Lakes, sacred to Hindus, is a famous pilgrimage site visited by both Hindu and Buddhist in August every year
